BZK Preporod and the Language Institute are preparing the Bosnian Orthography
On 17 June 2020 BZK Preporod and the Institute for Language of the University of Sarajevo signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in Sarajevo today, which includes work on drafting a new Bosnian language spelling.
The author team is led by academician Dževad Jahić and will also include Hasnija Muratagić-Tuna, Sanjin Kodrić, Alen Kalajdžija and Jasmin Hodžić, and the Orthographic Commission, or the Council for Standardization of the Bosnian Language, is much wider and, according to announcements, will expand in dependencies on need.
Also, it is stated that it is designed so that it consists of numerous philologists, literary historians, writers, lectors and other scientists and experts from various fields of importance for the development of spelling, taking into account primarily scientific and professional representativeness, but also very important territorial criterion, i.e. that the Orthographic Commission should include representatives of various Bosnian-speaking communities.
At a press conference held this morning, it was pointed out that BZK Preporod insisted that these be exclusively those authors who are ready to work on spelling as a public good, and not as their own, author's work because, as they say, spelling must not be private property of any individual.
The authors of the orthography will be, in essence, scientific-professional executors of works, and the copyright holder will be BZK Preporod as the oldest and most fundamental institution of Bosniak culture, ie. as a national institution, so that in that sense, as they announce, the new Bosnian orthography will be deindividualized and deprived - a common good.
The BZK Preporod Directorate also invited the Institute of Language of the University of Sarajevo to cooperate and work together on spelling as a respectable scientific institution, where the need to create a new orthography of the Bosnian language has also been considered for some time.
