This year is the 250th anniversary of the birth of the great German writer Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843), who marked not only the classical era of German literature, but also became synonymous with poetry as such with his work and life. His odes, hymns and elegies, a blend of authentic poetic subjectivity and ancient, revived forms, represent one of the pinnacles of world literature. Hölderlin, around whom many legends were woven, especially since he was diagnosed with an incurable mental illness, at a young age in Tübingen was friends and studied with the later famous philosophers Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, so their joint action is considered one of the essential starting points of German idealism, a spiritual current that strongly marked European culture. This year also is the 250th anniversary of the birth of G.W.F. Hegel.
Due to this double jubilee, the Department of German Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Goethe-Institut Sarajevo decided to mark this great jubilee of German and European culture. After the welcoming words of the director of the Goethe-Institut Martin Schumacher and the representative of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Vahidin Preljević will introduce the topic, renowned German author and essayist Stephan Wackwitz, who has long dealt with Hölderlin and his work, will give a lecture on the friendship and "productive community" of Hölderlin and Hegel, followed by a conversation. The event will end with the reading of selected poems by Friedrich Hölderlin translated and translated by Prof. Preljević and the top Bosnian poet Asmir Kujović.
