Symposium on occupational medicine and safety at work successfully held in Sarajevo

The symposium "Occupational Medicine and Safety at Work: Facing Challenges Through Innovation for a Safer Future for Workers" was successfully held in the “Akademik Seid Huković” Amphitheater, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo on 26 and 27 September 2025.
The two-day program brought together experts, academics and practitioners from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The symposium was opened by Prof. Dr. Amina Valjevac, Faculty of Medicine Dean, with speeches by Assistant Minister Goran Čerkez, Federal Ministry of Health of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Participants attended lectures by eminent experts:

- Prof. Dr. Petar Bulat, University of Belgrade Faculty of Medicine, Republic of Serbia
- Prof. Dr. Sc. Jelena Macan, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Medicine, Zagreb, Republic of Croatia
- Doz. Dr. Nada Marić, University of Banja Luka – Faculty of Medicine
- Prof. Dr. Sanja Brekalo – Lazarević, University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Medicine
- Tamara Radošević Kutičić, spec. med. of work and sports
The lectures covered current legislation, risk assessment, records of injuries at work, psychosocial risks, night work, static and dynamic loads and prevention of work disability.
The symposium’s second day was dedicated to five parallel workshops, designed to provide a wide range of topics – from workplace risk assessment and psychosocial risks, through exposure to chemical hazards, to prevention of work disability. The workshops were led by top experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and the goal was for each participant to gain practical knowledge and tools for application in their work and community.
The symposium ended with discussions, conclusions and the awarding of certificates to all participants.
