GEDIS Erasmus+ Project Activities at the University of Hildesheim, Germany

Within the Erasmus+ project “Gender Diversity in Information Science: Challenges in Higher Education” (GEDIS), a series of activities were held from 8 to 10 April 2026 at the University of Hildesheim (Germany), bringing together project partners from several European higher education institutions.

The programme began with a two-day tutorial titled “Understanding and Combating Hate Speech Against Women and Gender Minorities”. The training provided an interdisciplinary space for exploring mechanisms of bias, the role of data in shaping narratives, and the importance of critically informed approaches to addressing hate speech in higher education. Particular emphasis was placed on the transition from awareness-raising towards the development of critical literacy and its application in academic practice.

Following the tutorial, the project’s partner meeting was held, during which representatives of all partner institutions discussed ongoing activities and coordinated the next stages of project implementation. The meeting contributed to further strengthening cooperation within the consortium and reaffirmed the importance of collaborative approaches to issues of gender, diversity, and inclusion in higher education.

The University of Sarajevo was represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Džejla Khattab from the Faculty of Philosophy and Assistant Professor Dr. Lamija Silajdžić from the Faculty of Political Sciences.

In addition to the representatives of the tutorial organizers from the University of Hildesheim (Germany), the tutorial was attended by representatives from the University of Barcelona (Spain), which is the coordinator of the project, as well as representatives of partner institutions: Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Austria), Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia), University of Zadar (Croatia), Silesian University of Opava (Czech Republic) and University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

These activities represent an important step in the continued development of the project and its aim to enhance inclusive and critically engaged higher education practices.
