The 5th Student Congress Food-Nutrition-Health was held

V Studentski kongres „Hrana – ishrana – zdravlje“

In Sarajevo from 19 to 21 November 2020, the 5th Student Congress Food-Nutrition-Health with international participation was held and organized by seven University of Sarajevo Faculties from Medical, natural-mathematical and biotechnical Sciences Groups and Humanities. The Congress’ ceremonial opening rook place at the Ibis Styles Sarajevo Hotel on 19 November, and due to the current epidemiological situation, the Congress was held online this year.


Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector wished successful work to Congress participants by, emphasizing that he is extremely proud of this project, which is jointly organized by the faculties of the three groups of the University of Sarajevo, which is also the only project of its kind in BiH. “In this way, the University of Sarajevo organizational units promote togetherness and cooperation, an interdisciplinary approach in science, capacity building and integration of the University. We are especially proud that even in these difficult times the Student Congress Food-Nutrition-Health does not lose quality, which is primarily the result of exceptional enthusiasm, dedicated and selfless efforts of teachers and associates of our University, as well as students actively involved in organizing this event” emphasized Rector Škrijelj.

Director of the Food Safety Agency of BiH, Dr. Džemil Hajrić stated that "This Congress is an important form of communication between students, competent authorities and other stakeholders in order to find common goals and realize the importance of continuous connection, because only as a compact whole can we change human awareness of the importance of food.”

The participants of the congress were also addressed by the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Brka, Faculty of Dentistry with Clinics Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. Sedin Kobašlija, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Smajlović. An address by Prof. Dr. Faruk Čaklovica, Congress Organizing Committee President, opened the Congress.

It was pointed out that the 5th Student Congress is dedicated to marking the 80th Anniversary of the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the 60th Anniversary of the Faculty of Dentistry with the Clinics.

The Food-Nutrition-Health Student Congress promotes universal values of community and a multidisciplinary approach in ensuring healthy food and adequate nutrition as basic preconditions for ensuring and improving the health of the population. The congress was prepared and realized with the active participation of students of the faculty - the organizer of the conference, which achieved the educational goal of developing knowledge and skills needed for successful preparation and implementation of scientific conferences as a significant form of academic activity.

At the 5th Student Congress Food-Nutrition-Health, 68 student papers were presented, which were prepared by students from BiH, Croatia and Serbia under the mentorship of their teachers and assistants.

3.    Modern diagnostics and food analytics
4.    Nutrition throughout the life cycle
5.    Diet therapy
