Awaiting the 2nd Congress of BH Geneticists with international participation and a workshop on advanced biotechnology
In the period from 13 to 17 September 2021, the Association of Geneticists in Bosnia and Herzegovina (GENuBiH) in cooperation with the UNSA Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (INGEB-UNSA) organizes the 2nd Congress of BH Geneticists with international participation. Within the congress, a workshop on Advanced Biotechnology (Workshop on Advanced Biotechnology in Bosnia and Herzegovina - novel tools, safety measures, and ethical issues in genetic manipulation) will be organized in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In accordance with the epidemiological situation, both events will be held (take place) in an online format.
The congress agenda will include lectures and presentations of scientific papers within the following sections:
- Human and medical genetics,
- Genetics of natural resources,
- Bioengineering, biotechnology and bioinformatics,
- Biomonitoring and genetic toxicology,
- Forensic genetics.
Congress participants will have the opportunity to listen to 70 presentations (17 invited speakers, 14 oral lectures and 39 e-poster presentations). The Congress fully justifies its international character, given that approximately 50% of participants come from outside BiH.
The book of abstracts and selected original scientific articles will be published in the journal Genetics and Applications, published by the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Sarajevo.
The workshop, gathering eminent international and domestic lecturers, provides basic theoretical information on new biotechnological tools, but also an overview of the methodology of their application with selected examples from practice. It is also planned to consider current regulations in the region, examples of effective monitoring as well as biosafety and ethical aspects.
The congress and workshop are realized under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the City of Sarajevo and the sponsorship of Mikro+Polo d.o.o. Sarajevo.
