The University of Sarajevo promoted 71 Doctors of Sciences
The promotion of the Doctor of Science and Arts of the University of Sarajevo was held on 24 June 2021 at the National Theater in Sarajevo, in compliance with all applicable epidemiological protection measures.
Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Vice-Rectors and Faculty Deans promoted 71 candidates into Doctors of Sciences.
“In the moments when we celebrate this very important event with the application of special precautions due to coronavirus, we must be proud of our doctoral students who have achieved the highest academic title with their sacrifice and effort” said Rector Škrijelj.
Addressing the doctoral students, Rector Škrijelj stated that by defending their theses, they stepped into the global world of science, which offers the exchange and transfer of modern knowledge and skills, and told them to use their potential and be a generator of change in society.
“Through your hard work and sacrifice, you are called to be leaders in your scientific fields and to change the world for the better. Therefore, never give up in that endeavor, because a true scientist and intellectual is the one who wants better and different from the existing one. Don't forget your University in Sarajevo, because it is as strong as its internal strength, and that strength is exactly you, our doctoral students” said Rector Škrijelj, emphasizing that today's promotion of 71 candidates is being promoted at the honor of Doctor of Science is a kind of confirmation that the University of Sarajevo will continue to be committed to the production of modern doctoral studies that follow trends in Europe and the world.
Congratulations to the promoted doctors were sent by Prof. Dr. Melika Husić-Mehmedović, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth, and told them that BiH was with them. society richer and that they make it more beautiful.
“I am convinced that you will be one of the generations who will testify and directly benefit from our efforts to improve higher education and scientific research in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The development of society and the improvement of the quality of life of citizens are inconceivable without the development of science, i.e., scientific and artistic research. I hope that as young scientists you will contribute to improving the quality and encouraging innovation in science, technology and art for the benefit of our society as a whole” said Minister Husić-Mehmedović.
Aiming at the knowledge society, the University of Sarajevo promoted: 13 PhD candidates into Doctors of Technical Sciences, nine candidates into Doctors of Medical Sciences, five candidates into Doctors of Security and Educational Sciences, four candidates into Doctors of Agricultural Sciences, three candidates for part of doctors of economic, Islamic, social, historical and biological sciences, two candidates for the part of doctors of linguistic, legal, food-technological, mathematical and biotechnical sciences, and one candidate for the part of doctors of literary-historical, psychological, literary, pedagogical, communication, sociological, pharmaceutical, health, physical and veterinary sciences.
On behalf of the promoted doctors of science of the University of Sarajevo, Dr. Alma Mujanović-Narančić, doctor of medical sciences, pointed out that the acquired doctorates are only the beginning of their scientific and academic path.
“We are proud, because we are doctors of science and art at the University of Sarajevo," said Dr. Mujanović-Narančić, and added: "The profession we carry is a recognition, but also a responsibility. Continuous work in order to contribute to the response to the dominant challenges of today and the determination to improve are and will remain our commitment. And at the same time, we will not be satisfied with what we have achieved, nor will we agree to anything less than excellence, because we are doctors of science at the University of Sarajevo!”
On the same day, a gala concert of the University of Sarajevo Deans was organized at the National Theater as a part of the promotion ceremony, which ended the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo “Music May festivities”.
