Jovan Divjak Association “Education Builds BiH” executive director passed away
In Sarajevo, after a long and severe illness, at the age of 84, retired Brigadier General of ARBiH and Executive Director of the Association “Education Builds BiH” Jovan Divjak passed away.
He was born on 11 March 1937 in Belgrade. He graduated from the 12th class of the Military Academy in Belgrade, the course for battalion commander, Command and Staff Academy and the War School, and he performed the duties of an officer in the headquarters of the Territorial Defense of BiH. During the war, he served as Brigadier General of the Army of RBiH and Assistant Chief of Staff of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jovan was one of the founders and initiator of the idea of creating today's Association, in which he incorporated his life's work and himself. The philanthropic idea is the leader of this Association, headed by Jovan Divjak for 27 years.
He is the holder of a large number of awards for socially useful and humanitarian work, and the most important are: April 6 Award of the City of Sarajevo, Legion of Honor of the French Republic, Order of Lafayette, Plaque of the International Committee of the League of Humanists, Premio Takunda (Italy), Peace Builder 2013 )…
He has contributed to numerous international conferences and seminars, advocated for respect for children's and human rights as well as for quality and complete education. French and Italian publishers printed his book “Sarajevo, my love”, which talks about his life and war events in BiH, and he is the author of the book “Expecting truth and justice”.
On the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the University of Sarajevo, Jovan Divjak and the Association “Education Builds BiH” were presented with a letter of thanks for their contribution to the work and development of the University of Sarajevo.
