The University of Sarajevo retained its position among the 5% of the best universities in the world according to the Webometrics ranking
In the first edition of Webometrics ranking for 2021, the University of Sarajevo ranks at the 1672nd position on the world list in the total ranking of more than 31 thousand higher education institutions worldwide covered by screening, this time on three criteria: impact/visibility, openness and excellence, which ranks it in the top 5.39% of all universities on this list.
When it comes to the Europe ranking, the University of Sarajevo is ranked at 649th out of a total of 5774 ranked universities.
The January ranking was done according to the new methodology, so that the data from previous years are not comparable and it is not possible to compare with previous ranking results.
Namely, in relation to the ranking from July 2020, there was a change in the methodology of calculating the ranking, so that the Cybermetrics laboratory, which collects and processes data, changed the number of criteria for this ranking and instead of the previous four data were processed for three criteria, therefore these two results cannot be compared, simply because of the values of the individual segments that are taken into account in the calculation.
In the July ranking, the presence criterion carried 5% of the total value, and in the last January ranking, this criterion was abolished. In the impact criterion, the percentage remained unchanged (50%). Transparency remained with the same values (10%), while the criterion of excellence was increased from 35% to 40%, and the number of ranked universities was increased from 30 thousand to more than 31 thousand, which, of course, reflected the positioning on the January list. The January ranking of 2021 and the July ranking of 2020 must therefore be viewed separately, without comparison, due to a change in criteria.
Within the Webometrics Transparent Ranking, which ranks universities according to the citations of their teachers and associates, the University of Sarajevo is ranked at the 1095th position, which is a significant shift of 135 places compared to the previous year, when the University of Sarajevo was at the 1230th position. Transparent ranking uses Google Scholar as a platform for citation analysis, i.e. it shows the number of citations that teachers and associates have received in the works of their colleagues from all over the world. The transparent ranking is based on the 210 most cited teachers and associates from each university. This year's result brought the University of Sarajevo closer to the goal of being among the 1000 best universities in the next ranking.
