NUB BIH: LIST OF CANDIDATES FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS "ASTRID LINDGREN" MEMORIAL AWARD PUBLISHED
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award honors authors, illustrators, oral narrators, and reading promoters who have been nominated by world organizations and libraries. The names of 263 candidates from 69 countries have spread to six continents. Since 2007, the National and University Library of BiH, fulfilling all the conditions, is the nominating body for the nomination of candidates from Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (www.alma.se).
The jury, headed by President Boel Westin, has the challenging but enjoyable task of judging some of the world’s most prominent candidates each year and selecting one laureate (or several of them). This year, on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the candidates are Marija Fekete-Sullivan, Elmira Mekić, Mirsad Bećirbašić and Šimo Ešić.
The ALMA list contains both living legends and future stars. Their works feature wonderful adventures and daily observations full of emotion and psychological insight, brilliant visual art and humorous masterpieces. The list also includes reading promotion activities from several continents whose work fulfills a critical function for the future of children’s literature globally.
“Now more than ever, children and youth need access to literature that puts the world in perspective. The ALMA list has fantastic breadth, quality and diversity” said jury president Boel Westin.
