Bilateral meeting between Chinese delegation and representatives of the Academy of Music and the University of Sarajevo held at the Academy of Music UNSA

On the occasion of the visit of the Hunan Province Traditional Music Ensemble to Sarajevo, the Academy of Music at the University of Sarajevo hosted a delegation comprising members of the ensemble and representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 11/09/2026. The delegation met with the leadership of the Academy of Music and the Rector’s Office of the University of Sarajevo.

The hosts present at the meeting included: Vice-Rector for Art, Artistic Research, Culture and Sport, Prof. Mr. Arma Tanović Branković; Dean of the Academy of Music UNSA and Composition Professor, Prof. Mr. Ališer Sijarić; Vice-Dean for International Cooperation and Music Theory Professor, Prof. Dr. Amila Ramović; Vice-Dean for Art and Piano Professor, Prof. Mr. Dragan Opančić; Vice-Dean for Finance and Guitar Professor, Prof. Mr. Đani Šehu; Vice-Dean for Quality and Music Theory Professor, Prof. Dr. Naida Hukić; World Music lecturer, ethnomusicologist and artist, Teaching Assistant Mr. Damir Imamović; and Secretary of the Academy of Music UNSA, Mr. Lamija Selman.

The delegation from the People’s Republic of China consisted of: Head of Delegation Xu Rong; representatives of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qu Huibin and Wang Jian (Head of the Political Section of the Embassy); and ensemble members and prominent artists Zhou Bo, Wang Yuzhen, Zhang Ying, and Yang Min.

During the bilateral meeting, discussions focused on the possibilities and importance of establishing long-term institutional cooperation between the Academy of Music UNSA and educational and musical institutions from the People’s Republic of China, including exchanges of academic staff and students, and the implementation of joint programmes and projects.

Organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a concert by the Hunan Province Traditional Music Ensemble was held on the same day at the European House of Culture and National Minorities. The performers were Zhou Bo (dizi and xiao), Wang Yuzhen (erhu), Zhang Ying (zhongruan), Yang Min (acrobatic artist), and Xiang Chushuang (vocals).

On this occasion, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian audience was presented with representative examples of instrumental and vocal traditional music practices from the Chinese province of Hunan, performed in contemporary arrangements.
