UNSA Faculty of Traffic and Communications, Dean Prof. Dr. Amel Kosovac, awarded a plaque for long-standing successful work and development of public transportation in Sarajevo

Dekanu Univerziteta u Sarajevu – Fakulteta za saobraćaj i komunikacije prof. dr. Amelu Kosovcu uručena plaketa za dugogodišnji uspješan rad i razvoj javnog prevoza u Sarajevu

The Government of Canton Sarajevo and the Ministry of Transport of KS commemorated 140 years of public city transportation in Sarajevo, recalling the historical development from the first horse-drawn tram in 1885 to modern vehicles and systems that today form the backbone of the city’s mobility. The conference brought together institutions, experts, and partners who have contributed to the modernization of public transport over the past decades, emphasizing the importance of investing in sustainable, efficient, and integrated solutions.

As part of the conference, a thematic panel was held where participants from institutions, the academic community, and the public transport sector discussed the development of mobility in Canton Sarajevo. Special emphasis was placed on an integrated approach to mobility planning and the importance of skilled and scientific personnel who follow modern trends in transportation. This highlighted the role of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Traffic and Communications – in defining guidelines and providing expert support for the development of the public transport system. On this occasion, the Minister of Transport of Canton Sarajevo, Adnan Šteta, presented the plaque to the faculty dean, Prof. Dr. Amel Kosovac, "for long-standing successful work and development of public transportation in Sarajevo, as well as for academic and professional strengthening of new generations of experts, as pillars and foundations of a bright future." This plaque is a recognition of the individual engagement of the dean and the collective contribution of the Faculty in educating personnel who today form the basis of modern solutions in Sarajevo’s transportation system.

Commemorating this jubilee reminds us that cooperation between government institutions, public companies, and the academic community remains a key factor for the development of sustainable, high-quality, and reliable public transportation in the future.
