Kick-off meeting organized in the project “Accelerating and Enhancing Green Transition: collaboration of universities in climate adaptation” financed by Visegrad Fund
Pannon EGTC, University of Pécs and partners met for the “Kick of meeting” in Pécs on 12-13 December 2024. In the framework of the event the partners talked about the steps and milestones that will guide the project's progress. The project is supported by the International Visegrad Fund.
The objective of the project is to explore opportunities for cooperation between universities, related to the topic of green transition through education, research and third mission activities of these institutions in regional development and economic development. The project’s aim is the development of a joint action plan and a best practice repository in order to become a catalyst for the transition.
On the first day Dr. Péter Merza, director of Pannon EGTC and Dr. István Tarrósy, director of International Centre, University of Pécs welcomed the guests and officially opened the Kick-off Meeting. After the opening speech the Dr. Tímea Csetnek, project manager of Pannon EGTC gave a presentation about the aim of the meeting, and presented the project activities and role of the partners. After an ice breaking quiz the partners talked about the project budget, internal reporting procedures and supporting documents connected to internal reporting process. In the second part of the day each participant presented the Situation Analysis on the status quo of their own institution’s green efforts. The partners were actively involved in shaping the content and structure of the first two products of the project. Partners divided the sub-activities among themselves and defined who is responsible for what part regarding the development of the situation analysis and thec est practice repository. They established a clear timeline and identifyied key deliverables to ensure that all participants have a mutual understanding of the project's objectives and their roles. They defined the structure and format of the best practice repository, ensuring that it is comprehensive, user-friendly, and adaptable to different institutional contexts.
On the second day the participants had the opportunity to familiarize with University of Pécs’ environmental sustainability efforts. The following places were visited by the participants: buildings of University of Pécs, Medical School, Botanical Garden, administrative buildings where waste management methods were presented, etc. The partners discussed the 12 green actions, that the partners will take on during the implementation of the project, and share these actions between themselves.The participants traveled from the hotel to the University by bus, and with electric cars of the University of Pécs later.
The event was financed by the Visegrad Fund. The meeting was not only about planning and assigning tasks but also about building a strong basis of cooperation. It provided an opportunity for partners to align their expectations, share their visions for the project, and establish effective communication channels. We wish to draw the attention of the public and university community to the importance of cooperation on the climate and environmental protection and green policies.
