University of Sarajevo Promoted 63 Doctors of Science

The ceremonial promotion of Doctors of Science at the University of Sarajevo was held on Monday, 22 December 2025, at the National Theatre Sarajevo.
Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, along with vice-rectors and deans of the faculties, promoted 63 candidates to the honorary title of Doctor of Science.
Rector Zaimović emphasized that by promoting these 63 doctoral candidates, who hold the highest academic title, the University of Sarajevo symbolically marks the pinnacle of their extraordinary scientific journey and the beginning of a new phase in their professional and social engagement. "This is not just a ceremony. It is a act of confirmation — a confirmation of knowledge, character, and readiness to take responsibility. It is a moment when we not only celebrate the completion of an extremely demanding academic path but also, as a university, promote a generation of new bearers of scientific thought and social responsibility," said Rector Zaimović. He also urged the doctoral candidates to remember that, in times when universities and education are under attack — from those who understand the importance of free thought and wish to silence it, as well as from the ignorant who want to tell and show you that power does not recognize knowledge and that they can do whatever "power" allows — your dignity and integrity depend on your critical thinking. "Your decision not to be mere silent observers. How well you can turn critical thought and learned lessons into your daily success will determine both your future and ours," he stated.
Addressing the doctoral candidates, Rector Zaimović expressed that the University expects them not only to be bearers of scientific thought but also to be critical conscience of the community they belong to — advocating for the values of humanism, an inclusive society, justice, and truth, even when that requires stepping out of the comfort zone of academic ease, closed circles of scientific discourse, and immediate research results. The scientific and artistic community that makes up the University of Sarajevo should not be isolated in academic self-seclusion, and today, more than ever, its contribution must be visible beyond classrooms and laboratories. "Esteemed doctors of science, today the University of Sarajevo is not just giving you a diploma. It is giving you trust, expectation, and hope. And trust is not reciprocated with words — it is returned through actions. Responsibly and without compromise," said Rector Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, with sincere congratulations to all doctoral candidates.
This solemn act represents the culmination of years of scientific research and dedication to academic excellence. The promotion of 63 new doctors of science is a reason for pride for the University of Sarajevo, as well as for society as a whole, because knowledge and science remain the foundation of its development.
Congratulations to the doctors of science on this outstanding achievement!
