Senate Solemn Session ended the University of Sarajevo’s 70th anniversary celebration
By the UNSA Senate Ceremonial Session held on Friday, 27 December 2019, the solemn celebration of the December Days and the University of Sarajevo’s 70th anniversary ended.
The University's 70th Anniversary was marked by a number of events.
Highlighting the relationship and importance of the higher education system for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector looked back on implementing the most significant and recent reform of the University of Sarajevo in its post-war history.
“The current convocations of the Senate and Steering Committee of the University of Sarajevo, in addition to the elected ones we face on a daily basis, can be extremely proud of the leadership it has expressed in preparing and challenging this extremely demanding and announced reform process” said Rector Škrijelj and added ”Never mind that the University of Sarajevo, under your leadership, is one of the few institutions that, at a time when BiH society is facing dramatic challenges, uses economic stagnation, social stratification, political apathy and the emergence of emigration, has the strength and willpower that it is fundamentally changing, but that we can generalize which remain a modern university, ie. an academic and scientific setting that will empower and inspire future leaders of our society.”
As an academic and scientific worker who was given the task of serving the social and academic community as University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj said: “I have deep respect for your strong will to change the University of Sarajevo, which is changing and developing Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
At the 37th Senate of 23 December 2019, decisions were rendered to award the University of Sarajevo Acknowledgments and the University of Sarajevo Plaque and Rector Škrijelj gave the following acknowledgments to:
- H. E. Nicola Minasi, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Bosnia and Herzegovina for many years of development and contribution to the work and development of the University of Sarajevo, especially to support the implementation of the prestigious ERMA program.
- H. E. Hani Abdullah M. Mominah, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their outstanding contribution to the work and development of the University, which is especially needed for the financing, preparation and implementation of the capital infrastructure project University Library.
- The Education Association Obrazovanje gradi Bosnu i Hercegovinu for its contribution to the work and development of the University of Sarajevo.
Admir Greljo was named “University of Sarajevo Ambassador“ for his outstanding success in promoting the University of Sarajevo at the international level, and this time he was handed the acknowledgment.
On the occasion of celebrating the University of Sarajevo‘s 70th anniversary, the University of Sarajevo Acknowledgment – Gratitude Plaquette was given to the University of Sarajevo Deans for their academic contribution to the work of the University of Sarajevo Senate in 2016-2020 term.
The University of Sarajevo Acknowledgment – Gratitude Plaquette was given to the UNSA Steering Committee Chairman Dr. Murat Ramadanović on behalf of the Founder for outstanding contribution to the work and development of the University of Sarajevo and to a Steering Committee Member, Prof. Dr. Jasminka Gradaščević-Sijerčić in front of the Academic Board, for outstanding contribution to the work and development of the University of Sarajevo. This University of Sarajevo Acknowledgement was also handed over to the organizational unit of the University of Sarajevo for outstanding merit as the founders and first members of the University of Sarajevo.
At the awarding ceremony, the awards were given to University of Sarajevo’s organizational units and persons for their outstanding contribution to the research and publication of research papers, and to the promotion of the scientific production of the University of Sarajevo in 2017 and 2018.
Emphasizing that the importance and value of science are invaluable, but unfortunately are not recognized by the society in which we live, Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, Vice-Rector for Research/Art Research at the University of Sarajevo, emphasized that bright examples of scientific and artistic production must be recognized and promoted as models.
“Scientists who, despite all their difficulties, contribute to scientific thought and shape the knowledge society through their work, must be the pinnacle of every university. Award-winning scholars and artists have earned their work to be recognized as shining examples at our university. Through their work, they have contributed greatly to us, as a university, justifying the trust of the European Commission, which has awarded us the Excellence in Research logo” said Vice-Rector Husremović.
Pursuant to the Senate Decision and the Rules on the Remuneration of Academic and Scientific Research Staff and the Allocation of Funds to Organizational Units of the University of Sarajevo, awards were given to 57 scientists, scientists and artists and 10 organizational units based on the results of scientific/artistic work.
