Presentation of student and faculty member projects from the UNSA Faculty of Architecture at the Piran Days of Architecture 2024

Predstavljanje projekata studenata i nastavnog osoblja Arhitektonskog fakulteta UNSA na Piranskim danima arhitekture 2024.

The Piranesi Award has been awarded since 1989, and this year for the 35th time in a row. The central theme of this year's edition of the Piranesi Days of Architecture conference was “Ethics and Responsibility.”

52 architectural projects were nominated for the Piranesi Award 2024 by national selectors from 11 European countries: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

42 student projects were also nominated by selectors from 21 European faculties of architecture from Spittal, Vienna, Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Split, Zagreb, Thessaloniki, Budapest, Ferrara, Pescara, Trieste, Vaduz, Podgorica, Belgrade, Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Maribor, Lucerne and London. A total of 89 projects made it to the Piranesi exhibition – 50 projects by architects and 39 student projects.

The nominations for the Piranesi award on behalf of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Architecture are:

1.    Market S | 2023.

Students: Igor Mandić, Tajra Šurković

Mentor: Prof. Erdin Salihović, Prof. Amira Salihbegović, Prof. Nermina Zagora

The guiding idea that influenced the positioning and design of the market was to connect Vilsonovo šetalište with the nearby “Šumarak” park. In order to prevent further environmental degradation and differentiate the market structure from the garage planned in the basement, lightweight materials and wooden structures were selected. The focus was on improving communications and safety in the area, using natural and recycled materials. Recycled polycarbonate roof panels and wooden laminated structures complement each other through the play of light and shadow, providing high thermal efficiency and keeping the structure lightweight.

2.    Terra+rium | 2023
Students: Šein Taletović, Merjem Zekaj
Mentor: Prof. Vedad Islambegović

The main goal of the project was to create a self-sustaining community with public and private spaces for residents. By permeating the urban environment with nature, bordered by a transparent cladding, a completely new ecosystem is formed. By creating common spaces within the central building and rooftop gardens intended for growing fresh produce, and by opening a market for their sale, a model was achieved that enables the sustainability of the entire community

The four projects from Bosnia and Herzegovina, selected by selector Hana Kevilj, that were in competition for the Piranesi Award are:
•    Day Care Center ‘DENIS’ | Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina | 2024
