The preliminary project of the Music Academy future building on the University of Sarajevo Campus presented
On 24 January 2024, at the University of Sarajevo Music Academy, a presentation of the preliminary project of the Music Academy future building on the University of Sarajevo Campus was held, which was presented by University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Vice-Rector for Finance, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Vice-Rector for Arts, Artistic Research, Culture and Sports, Prof. Dr. Tamara Karača Beljak and UNSA Music Academy Dean, Prof. M.Sc. Ališer Sijarić.
Rector Škrijelj pointed out that during his two mandates, art was recognized as one of the key sectors of the University of Sarajevo's activities, which is why the planning and construction of the Music Academy facility within the University Campus was of particular importance in his involvement. Following this idea, the company Arup Group, which is behind the projects of world architectural attractions such as the Sydney Opera House, created a master plan for the future Campus and placed the Music Academy as the central object in this space. Thus, practically and symbolically, this institution will be the meeting point of all disciplines studied on the Campus, as well as the academic and wider community, which is also the vision of the conception of this project.
Vice-Rector Zaimović pointed out that the development of this project was the primary strategic commitment of the Rectorate's team in the past two mandates, and that, accordingly, significant strategic steps were taken in the process of its realization. In addition to the development of the master plan, a financing plan for the construction of the future Campus was also defined, which includes financial support from the European Investment Bank and the French Development Agency, as well as the Sarajevo Canton Government, which has set the construction of the new Campus as one of its priority tasks.
In 2025, the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo celebrates its 70th anniversary. Since 1955, this higher education institution has been in temporary accommodation, which is inadequate in terms of space and interior design, and is not functional for the activities of the institution that produced the most important Bosnian musical artists. With the implementation of this project, the Music Academy will get its own building for the first time, which is a necessary condition for it to remain not only a center of music education, but also of artistic production and preservation of the cultural identity of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, open to all its citizens.
