Global cooperation in the field of science and innovation

Globalna saradnja na polju nauke i inovacija

In May, the 32nd regular session of the Board of Governors of the UN international organization for scientific and technological cooperation – ICGEB (International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) was held in Cape Town (South Africa).

The session was attended by Prof. Dr. Lejla Pojskić, scientific advisor at the University of Sarajevo – Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she directly addressed the gathering, highlighting the current status and importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in this prestigious organization for the development of scientific and technological capacities in the field of biotechnology.

Through various instruments, ICGEB has supported the BiH scientific community by financing scientific research projects, organizing scientific and professional conferences, and several short stays of our researchers in ICGEB countries for various forms of education. Of particular importance is the support of ICGEB in developing the visibility of the university scientific journal Genetics&Applications, a publicistic project of the Institute with a growing international impact that is becoming the voice of successful scientists around the world.

Prof. Dr. Lejla Pojskić is currently the head of the INGEB team on the Bioaccess project, a scientific and development project between ICGEB and the University of Sarajevo, funded by the Italian Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The project aims to transfer new technologies for the production of biological medicines and biosimilars and develop industrial capacities for biotechnological production in BiH, which is implemented by the Institute of Genetic Engineering (INGEB) and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Sarajevo, as well as the Association of Geneticists in BiH, and includes numerous experts in the fields of biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy.
