Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo - Lecture “Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery” Held as Part of Bilateral Cooperation with the University of Graz

As part of bilateral cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Austria, lectures on the application of nanotechnology for drug delivery were held at the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Pharmacy on 22 September 2026.
The lectures were delivered by Dr. Ivana Ruseska and Nataša Holler, Mag. Pharm., from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy, University of Graz.
The visit was carried out within the framework of the bilateral project between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Austria, titled “Nanoparticle-Mediated Delivery of microRNA for Reprogramming Adipose Tissue: An Alternative to Ozempic?”, funded by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is led by Dr. Ivana Ruseska and Dr. Amina Tucak-Smajić.
During the lectures, the guests from the University of Graz presented the results of their doctoral and postdoctoral research in the field of modern drug delivery systems, with particular focus on the application of nanotechnology in pharmaceutical research. Various approaches to developing advanced systems—using protamines, peptides, lipids, and nanoemulsions—for the delivery of nucleic acids were presented, along with their potential applications in contemporary drug development.
A special segment of the lecture was dedicated to opportunities for mobility, research work, and professional development for students of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Graz. Students were introduced to opportunities to gain international experience, engage in research activities, and become familiar with modern research practices in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
The lecture brought together faculty members, associates, and students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, providing a valuable opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience, the connection of researchers and students, and the strengthening of academic and research cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the University of Graz.
We thank Dr. Ivana Ruseska and Nataša Holler for their visit, engaging lecture, and exchange of experiences, as well as all faculty members, associates, and students whose presence contributed to the successful realization of this event.
