University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology Day Celebrated
A solemn Eucharistic celebration in the Seminary Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Sarajevo and the solemn academy in the Paul VI Hall on the St. Luke the Evangelist feast – 18 October 2019 marked the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology (KBF) that took this saint as its patron saint.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Vinko Puljić, Archbishop of Vrhbosna Metropolitan and Grand Chancellor of the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology, with a concelebration of KBF professors and seminary educators and other priests, theologians and other KBF students, nuns and other believers.
KBF Dean, Dr. Sc. Darko Tomašević greeted Cardinal Puljić, priests and all present. He pointed out in his speech that Holy Mass was held as a token of gratitude to the Lord for all his gifts and a pray to blesses with his blessing the graduates.
Dean Tomašević also thanked everyone for their attendance and briefly outlined KBF’s results in the 2018/2019 academic year. He also mentioned the organization of several scientific meetings and theological forums and various publications. He reported that scholarships had been awarded to 13 female students enrolled in the Master Program “Interreligious Studies and Peacebuilding”, and spoke about the visits of both professors and students from Europe, who had become familiar with KBF's past work.
Rector Škrijelj also congratulated the attendants and said that he felt proud as we were living in a time when the barrier was overcome that had existed during the decades of discrimination against the theological Faculties, which in addition to the “body” - all other University of Sarajevo Faculties, as he said, theological Faculties represent the “soul” of the University. He recalled that the University of Sarajevo celebrates its seventieth anniversary, whereas KBF was established almost 130 years ago, and the Faculty of Islamic Sciences records its beginnings in the 16th century. He said that with their historical wealth, two theological institutions made a good contribution to the strengthening of the University of Sarajevo, and that together with the Faculty of Orthodox Theology, as part of a joint master's program, it was visible how much in total the young people from the three theological faculties contributed and asked that they all others God strengthens and supports in the path of justice, good and truth.
The lecture on “The missionary nature of the Church rooted in Trinitarian dynamism” was delivered by Doz. Dr. Hrvoje Kalem.
The academy ended with Franz Schubert's “Ave Maria”, sung by the baritone Dragan Pavlović “a capella.”
