The 69th University of Sarajevo Anniversary Marked
The 69th University of Sarajevo’s Anniversary was celebrated by the commemorative University of Sarajevo Senate Session and professors emeritus inauguration on Wednesday, 26 December 2018.
In the City Hall building 69 years ago, on 2 December 1949 the University Founding Assembly convened at which were elected the first ever Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Dr. Vaso Butozan, and the first Vice-Rector, Dr. Drago Krndija. The founding of the first BH University is a significant date in the BH history, the milestone in embracing faster socio-economic and cultural transformation of BH society.
In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector presented the history and development of the University of Sarajevo, emphasizing its role during many decades as a modern university - scientific backbone of knowledge in our country, contributes to the development and strengthening of academic capacities throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkans and Europe.
The second part of the ceremony was dedicated to the emeritus professor’s inauguration.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj promoted the following UNSA professors into professor emeritus titles:
- Ognjenka Finci, retired full professor, Faculty of Architecture
- Dr. Emina Kečo-Isaković, retired full professor, Faculty of Political Science
- Milanka Miković, retired full professor, Faculty of Political Science
- Dr. Ismet Grbo, retired full professor, Faculty of Political Science
- Esad Zgodić, retired full professor, Faculty of Political Science
- Stjepan Šimić, retired full professor, Faculty of Political Science
- Nedžad Leko, retired full professor, Faculty of Philosophy
- Paša Gackić, retired full professor, Academy of Music
- Rešad Arnautović, retired full professor, Academy of Music
- Mehmed Kico, retired full professor at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences - posthumously
9 employment contracts were also awarded at the ceremony to assistants and professional associates within the employment program of 150+ that is being realized with the support of the Sarajevo Canton Government and Assembly, and in cooperation with the Sarajevo Canton Employment Service. The program aims at rejuvenating teaching staff and renewing human resources at the University organizational units and retaining educated young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Sarajevo Canton at least. Wihin this program, 133 assistants and professional associates at the University of Sarajevo have been employed so far.
The ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of the University of Sarajevo was extolled by the presence of following important personalities: academician Prof. Dr. Miloš Trifković, BH Academy of Sciences and Arts chairman, Prof. Dr. Zoran Tomić, BH Rectors’ Conference chairman and Rector of the University of Mostar, Prof. Dr. Nermina Hadžigrahić, University of Tuzla Rector, Prof. Dr. Elvir Zlomušica, "Džemal Bijedić" University of Mostar Rector, Dr. Sci. Murat Ramadanović, University Steering Committee President, University Steering Committee members, academcians, Senators, the best University of Sarajevo students in 2018 – University of Sarajevo Golden Badge recipients: Abdulah Jašarević, Demir Papić and Harun Iserović, and numerous professors and students.
The ceremonial Senate session and the promotion of professors emeritus is one in a series of events organized on the occasion of marking the 69th University of Sarajevo’s Anniversary. The other Anniversary marking events were: the promotion and diplomas awarding to 5246 graduates, an exhibition of students artwork by the Art Academy of the University of Split at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Sarajevo, the concert by the UNSA Music Academy Orchestra, the promotion of 54 Doctors of Sciences, and the staging of the play Electra by Aeschylus performed at the Academy of Performing Arts, and numerous ceremonies and scientific meetings organized by the University of Sarajevo‘s subunits.
