BMS2018 Mathematics Conference
The International Mathematical Conference - BMS Mathematical Conference 2018 was held from at the Department of Mathematics, UNSA Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, from 12 to 14 July 2018.
The largest conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the field of mathematics aimed at bringing together professors, researchers, scientists and students from the field. This project sought to create a good platform for the scientific community to meet with another in order to present new research, exchange information and discuss current issues. The Conference hosted 60 registered participants from the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Morocco, Nigeria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and of course, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Conference‘s thematic units were: mathematical analysis, number theory, differential equations and discrete dynamic systems, topological dynamics, algebra, theoretical computer science and mathematics in education.
The BMS Mathematical Conference 2018 was incorporated into the mathematical calendar of the American Mathematical Society, as well as the mathematical calendar of the International Society of Difference Equations. In the past decade, a three-year EU project of the Doctoral Study of Mathematical Sciences in South-East Europe was coordinated from the UNSA Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics Department, and seven intensive courses for doctoral students and masters from 15 universities from the countries of the region within the DAAD SE Mathematics Application Excellence Center project. The Mathematics Department was also a co-organizer of two summer schools within the Go East program: ”Sarajevo Summer School of Applied Mathematics in Technique”. The summer schools attendants were students from numerous universities from the Federal Republic of Germany.
The BMS Mathematical Conference 2018 is one of the most important mathematical conferences ever held in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Forty years after the Counseling on Mathematics in BiH, this Conference testifies to its achievement of the degree of involvement of mathematics in BiH in world mathematical flows.
For plenary lecturers, organizers invited some of the leading mathematicians whose expertise fields were covered by the Conference's program. The plenary lecturers were: Muharem Avdispahić (University of Sarajevo, BiH); Vitaly Bergelson (Ohio State University, USA); Martin Bohner (Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA); Mustafa Kulenović (University of Rhode Island, USA); Harry Miller (International University of Sarajevo, BiH); Dmitri Vasiliev (University College London, UK); Benjamin Weiss (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel).
The Conference was organized by the UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department of Mathematics and Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Tuzla, and Association of Mathematicians of Sarajevo Canton. The Chairman of the Scientific Committee was Prof. Dr. Muharem Avdispahić, HonDsc, whereas the President of the Organizing Committee was Prof. Dr. Senada Kalabušić.
