The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo is a place where different cultures, diverse opinions, the wisdom of adulthood and the creative beauty of youth meet. Through academic openness, initiative and participation in public events, the Faculty wants to be the center of lifelong learning and education of responsible and socially active citizens.
In the dynamic teaching process at the Faculty, future teachers, experts and scientists in the fields of humanities and social sciences are educated and educated, who are ready to respond to the challenges of 21st century careers.
Due to its academically diverse nature, the Faculty initiates and develops dialogues between cultures, opens horizons of understanding and nurtures the acceptance and respect of individuals in their uniqueness and diversity.
The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo was established by the Decision of the Government of the People's Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1950 and is the oldest higher education institution for the humanities and social sciences in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Studying at this educational and scientific institution provides a broad education in the field of humanities and social sciences: philosophy, sociology, ethnology, history, art history, archeology, pedagogy, special pedagogy, psychology, Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian language, literature of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, English, German, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Latin, Greek, comparative literature and information sciences. Students can expand their knowledge by listening to and taking elective courses in Czech and Swedish, which are defined within the study programs, as well as in Slovenian, Polish and Japanese.
The teaching-scientific process at the Faculty of Philosophy takes place in basic and combined study programs that can be single-subject and double-subject. Since the academic year 2005/2006. The Faculty started studying at the Faculty according to the Bologna principles (3 + 2 + 3), ie according to the new European standards and goals, and the ECTS credit system was introduced at all departments and independent departments, namely: Department of English Department of Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian Language, Department of Philosophy, Department of German Studies, Department of History, Department of History / History of Art, Department of Archeology, Department of Literature of the Peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Department of Comparative Literature and Information Science, Department of Oriental Philology, Department of Pedagogy , Department of Psychology, Department of Romance Studies, Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and Department of Sociology.
Upon completion of their studies, students are, thanks to the competencies and skills acquired at the Faculty, trained to work in secondary and primary schools, libraries, museums, archives, institutes for various purposes, institutes for the protection of monuments, documentation centers. Also, as professional associates, they can participate in the work of preschool and school institutions, institutions dealing with culture, publishing, media, health and social care, public administration, public and private institutions.
Students who complete teaching orientations can be employed as teachers in secondary and primary schools. Students who complete non-teaching study programs can take exams in pedagogical education and be trained to work in secondary and primary school.
Today, the graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy are recognized academics, university professors, teachers in secondary and primary schools, experts in practice, cultural and public workers, artists who achieve international recognition, writers, journalists and diplomats.
The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo is responsible for educating capable, creative and internationally competent staff in all areas of interest to the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina through teaching and research and research work, so that they can professionally and qualitatively perform demanding tasks of modern society. European and world overall social, cultural and economic context. The Faculty, through a teaching process based on research, innovation and academic quality, will continue to educate as before the bearers of development of Bosnia and Herzegovina and through scientific and research work will encourage the creation of new solutions and creative ideas and thus be a pillar of sustainable development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
