The 15th May Music Festival ended with a concert by the UNSA Music Academy Choir
The final concert of the 15th festival of the May Music Festival was held last night in the House of the Armed Forces of BiH. On that occasion, the Choir of the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo performed, under the baton of conductor Emanuel Josić, and under the mentorship of the full Prof. Art. Jasenka Ostojić.
The first part took place in a spiritual atmosphere and included performances of the compositions “Ave verum” by Camille Saint-Saēns and “Ave Maria” by Charles Gounod, interpreted with piano accompaniment by Marija Grubišić, “O Languens Jesu” by Lajos Bárdos, “Tebe poem” by Dmitrij Bortnjanski , “Virgin Mary” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, “Da pacem Domine” by Arvo Pärt, as well as “Laudate Dominum” by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrine.
The repertoire includes a number of traditional songs interpreted in the arrangement for the choir, such as Bosnian songs “I thought” arranged by Avdo Smailović, “Falila se zelenika” and “Zaplakala stara majka” from “Seven music songs” by Mladen Pozajić, but also “Early One Morning “, an English traditional song arranged by Viktor Fortin, and the Norwegian” Per Spelman “arranged for choir performance by Peter Altmann. The choir also interpreted Zoltán Kodály's “Túrót eszik a cigáany”.
The concert ended with a performance of “Prelude,” a piece composed by Ola Gjeilo.
