CAFIU Delegation Visited UNSA
The Delegation of the Chinese Association for International Understanding (CAFIU) - CAFIU Vice President and Head of the delegation, Ai Ping, Secretary General, Zhu Rui and Xia Jiaoye visited the University of Sarajevo on Monday, 7 May 2018. They were received and met by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić and the Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo Co-Directors, Miroslav Živanović and La Weixin. The “Bosnian-Chinese Friendship” Association President, Faruk Borić attended the meeting.
The CAFIU Delegation, a Beijing think-tank gathering civil society organizations from 60 countries involved in the multidisciplinary study of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, is staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the invitation of the Center for Promotion and Development of the Initiative “Belt and Road” on the occasion of the symposium on the theme “Belt and Road and the Connecting the Peoples.”
During the meeting, opinions and attitudes are exchanged on possible modalities of collaboration and the linking of people, ideas and goods through the initiative “Belt and Road”.
The agreement between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the abolition of visas for ordinary passport holders to enter into force on 29 May was also stressed. This move will further open the doors for cooperation between two countries. CAFIU Vice President, Mr. Ai Ping reminded that last year, in Beijing, a Forum for International Cooperation within the “Belt and Road” was held in May, according to which the President of China proposed the establishment of a network of NGOs, which was officially established in November last year.
The “Belt and Road” initiative, launched in 2013 by President of the Republic of China, Xi Jinping, aims to link the countries and peoples of the world to economic, cultural, civilization and municipal plan. Bosnia and Herzegovina is among 70 countries and regions that have formally joined the initiatives that represent a major contribution to the creation of common humanity in the 21st century.
The Symposium is organized by the Center for the Promotion and Development of the “Belt and Road” initiative and supported by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, the Foreign Trade Chamber and the University of Sarajevo.
