Intensifying cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the International University of Sarajevo
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yıldırım, International University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Mehmed Ganić, Vice-Rector, and Mr. Jahja Imamović, Deputy Secretary General, visited the University of Sarajevo on 8 October 2020, where they met with the University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, and Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš and Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić.
During the meeting, the intensification of successful cooperation between two universities was discussed and possibilities of expanding cooperation, especially through joint participation in international projects.
“One of University of Sarajevo’s strategic goals is internationalization and increasing the number of foreign students” said Rector Škrijelj, adding that the cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the International University in Sarajevo should be improved and developed.
Rectors Yıldırım and Škrijelj also referred to the project of promoting Sarajevo as a regional and European university center, which would be realized by a joint performance of the City of Sarajevo and several universities operating in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the domestic and international level in education, science and culture and arts.
Rector Yıldırım wished Rector Škrijelj success in his second term, saying that University of Sarajevo was among the leading universities in the region and stated that he was pleased with the intensification of cooperation in the coming period. He also proposed developing cooperation with universities from the Republic of Turkey and signing trilateral agreements in order to achieve the exchange of students, teaching staff and researchers.
The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the extension of the Agreement on Academic Cooperation, which was signed in February 2009 for a ten years period. This agreement, signed with the aim of promoting academic, educational and cultural cooperation between the two institutions, enabled, among other things, exchange of teaching staff and students, implementation of joint study programs, implementation of joint scientific research programs and projects, and organization of joint scientific and professional gatherings.
With expressed mutual openness for the continuation and intensification of cooperation and extension of the Agreement on Academic Cooperation, it was emphasized at the meeting that the joint action of the University of Sarajevo and the International University of Sarajevo can achieve extraordinary results and achieve numerous successes.
