Southeastern Europe management professors gathering started at the Faculty of Economics
The Annual Inter-Chair Meeting of the Management, Organization and Entrepreneurship Departments of Southeastern Europe - MANIKS 2019 aroused great interest with current presentations in various fields of management
SARAJEVO, 20 SEPTEMBER 2019 –Keynote speaker Professor Emeritus Hasan Muratović, former University of Sarajevo Rector and long-time professor at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, opened the 9th Inter-Chair Meeting of the Management, Organization and Entrepreneurship Departments of Southeastern Europe at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo on theme “Management Theories: Traditional and Contemporary Considerations”. The main panel entitled “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Management: Management 3.0 - A New Paradigm” was also led by a long-time management professor at the Faculty, Dr. Aziz Šunje.
In his presentation on traditional and contemporary management theories, Professor Muratović emphasized that development and changes in society, economy and technology are key causes and needs for changing roles of managers and management theory. “The role of the manager and the theory of management, from the time of the first scientific management theories to the present, are in a constant process of change. Developments and changes in society, economy and technology are key causes and needs for changing roles of managers and management theory” aid Professor Hasan Muratović. In his presentation, Dr. Muratovic spoke about key 21st century functions that have a positive and negative impact on managerial roles, and highlighted two key capabilities of contemporary managers to perform four key management functions: the ability to partner with IT professionals as well as the ability to lead and participate in IT projects. “The basic concept of modern organization is: increasing the exchange of information and knowledge, opposing specialization as well as the dependence of experts on the hierarchy” concluded Hasan Muratović.
Professor Muratović ended his presentation with reflections on the key issues of the profession: What do we need to teach students and businessmen? What content should management students have? What roles to give to the fittest to recruit and retain them? How to ensure the ongoing transformation of processes, tools and organizations at an increasingly operational and strategic level?
The goal of the panel “The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Management: Management 3.0 - The New Paradigm” is to look at how the fourth industrial revolution, based on artificial intelligence and biotechnology, will affect the way business is run. Prof. Dr. Aziz Šunje pointed out: “There is no doubt that in times to come businesses will be run in a paradigmatically different way. Our intention is to try to see how businesses will run in the times ahead. There is also no doubt that the Fourth Industrial Revolution will significantly change the way people who want to educate themselves to run businesses, both in terms of curriculum structure and teaching delivery.”
The second part of MANIKS 2019 is organized in three parallel sessions: “Encouraging People in the New Age”, “Developing in Strategy and Organization”, “Corporate Entrepreneurship (Internal Entrepreneurship): An Organizational Development Paradigm in the 21st Century” First Session “Encouraging People in the new age ”was dedicated to micro aspects of management, which focused on human resources. This session discussed the impact of the technological revolution on job design and changing approaches to motivation within the organization through addressing the issues of balancing personal and professional life, demographic change, new paradigms in leadership, organizational climates and cultures, trust, talent management. The session “Development in strategy and organization” addressed the issues of strategic commitment, corporate social responsibility, global competitiveness and organizational design at a time of technological change.
The session “Corporate Entrepreneurship (Internal Entrepreneurship): The Organizational Development Paradigm in the 21st Century” presented the field of entrepreneurship through the always pressing questions about women and young people in entrepreneurship, family, academic, strategic and public sector entrepreneurship, etc.
Domestic Management veterans- Prof. Dr. Zijada Rahimić, Prof. Dr. Senad Softić (current Central Bank of BiH Governor) and Prof. Dr. Elvir Čizmić - moderated the aforementioned sessions. Participants were the Central Bank of BiH Vice-Director Ernandina Bajrović, Prof. Dr. Srećko Goić, Faculty of Economics in Split full professor, Širbegović Engineering director and owner Faruk Širbegović, Hastor Foundation director and Member of the Management Board of the Prevent Group Seid Fijuljanin, Prof. Dr. Zijada Rahimić, Asst. Dr. Dženan Kulović, PING LTD. CEO, Dr. Muamer Bezrob, representative of Everestconsulting LTD., Edib Ahmetspahić. The special session “Successful Regional Business Stories” was moderated by Asst. Dr. Jasna Kovačević. The participants were Head of Research and Consulting and Chief Economist of Raiffeisen Bank BiH Ivona Zametica, director and owner of Širbegović Engineering Faruk Širbegović and Department of Management and Organization professor Prof. Dr. Elvir Čizmić. The panel discussed the success factors in the regional context as well as contemporary challenges, particularly highlighting the social responsibility of companies, adapting to the changes imposed by the fourth technological revolution.
MANIKS 2019 ends on Saturday 21 September 2019 with a closing workshop “Effects of Past Meetings and Conferences - Incentives for Future Cooperation”, - moderated by Assist. Dr. Amra Kožo and the announcement of the host of the 10th Inter-Chair Meeting in 2020.
