Kingdom of Spain Ambassador and Cervantes Institute Director Visit the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy
Sarajevo, 1 October 2026 – The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy hosted Her Excellency María Molina Álvarez de Toledo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Iñaki Abad Leguin, Director of the Cervantes Institute in Belgrade, together with colleagues, as part of a working visit dedicated to developing academic and cultural cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Spain.
The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Amir Duranović, Vice-Dean for Financial and Organisational Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Edina Spahić. During the meeting, discussions focused on the status of the Spanish language at the University of Sarajevo, possibilities for its further development and strengthened presence in higher education, and potential for more intensive cooperation with Spanish higher education institutions.
Special attention was devoted to developing international academic cooperation through teacher, researcher, and student exchange programmes, joint scientific research projects, and establishing new partnerships with universities in Spain. The interlocutors emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between educational and cultural institutions of the two countries, recognising the Spanish language and Hispanic culture as an important space for developing international cooperation.
Representatives of the Faculty of Philosophy presented the Faculty's previous experiences in international projects and cooperation with foreign partners, while the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain and the Director of the Cervantes Institute expressed readiness to support initiatives contributing to the strengthening of academic, educational, and cultural ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Spain.
The working visit concluded with a mutual commitment to continuing dialogue and concrete activities that will contribute to the further development of cooperation between the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy, the Cervantes Institute, and partner institutions in Spain.
