Visit of the Delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the KS and the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the KS to the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies at UNSA

On Wednesday, 16 October 2024, the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies was visited by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, and the Police Commissioner of the MUP Police Department of the Sarajevo Canton, Inspector General Fatmir Hajdarević. On that occasion, a working meeting was held where the cooperation so far and its improvement in the future were discussed. Along with Minister Katica and Commissioner Hajdarević, the head of the Criminal Police Sector, Chief Inspector Amir Halilović, the head of the Novo Sarajevo PU, Dejan Barić, and the head of the Department for Criminal Techniques and Forensics, Nijaz Smajić, participated in the visit.

During the meeting, it was pointed out that the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton - the Police Directorate have an exceptional cooperation, and the importance of the adopted amendments to the Law on Police Officers in such a way that the profession was returned to the police, as well as the Law on Internal Affairs, was particularly emphasized . The cooperation between the Faculty and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo is successfully carried out in numerous areas, but it is most expressed in the implementation of the teaching process in which the employees and police officers of the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton actively participate as lecturers - experts from practice.

"I am really happy because of the mutually good cooperation that most certainly contributed to the fact that our successes and work results, both in teaching and in scientific research and practical work, led to the fact that, when it comes to enrolling students in the first year of study in compared to the planned and approved number, positioned in fourth place at the University of Sarajevo. I am sure that together we will continue to deepen our cooperation in all segments," said Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić.

Minister Katica expressed satisfaction with the fact that the new methodology for recruiting police officers had such a positive effect on students.

“The amendments to the law that we passed and the positioning of the profession in the Sarajevo Canton clearly show our determination that educated, trained and professional personnel enter the police force and that, in fact, everyone does their job. That's why criminal, criminological and security professions are positioned in the law because people who have completed that profession should take care of citizens' safety. We are proud of our transparent admission procedures that we implement, and I am glad to hear that it resonated with young people who opt for this profession,” said Minister Katica.

Police Commissioner General Inspector Fatmir Hajdarević presented concrete proposals for improving cooperation with the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, all with the aim of better preparing students for future work in police structures.

“My proposal is to provide students with as much practical work as possible, and the Police Department of the MUP of Sarajevo Canton is at your disposal as much as possible in this regard. Students, in addition to your scientific approach, which I appreciate and respect the most, also need a practical part, to learn the basics of police work. When young people graduate from university, get a diploma for them, they should have basic practical knowledge at the same time, to know how the processes take place, what are the steps in investigations, investigations, etc. The police department of the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton is available to young personnel who choose this profession to acquire practical knowledge, in accordance with the currently valid regulations," Commissioner Hajdarević said.

In addition to Dean, Prof. Dr. Ahić, the Delegation was welcomed by the closest part of the Faculty's management: the Vice Dean for Research, Prof. Dr. Lada Sadiković, Vice Dean for Teaching and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Admir Hadžikadunić, Vice Dean For International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Irma Deljkić, head of the Department of Criminalistics, Prof. Dr. Nebojša Bojanić, head of the "CriminalEast" Institute, Prof. Dr. Muamer Kavazović and Faculty Secretary Ermina Bakić.

After the official meeting, the delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton - Police Administration attended the implementation of exercises from the subject "Practical teaching - Professional practice 1" in the first year of the first cycle of studies at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies of the University of Sarajevo.
