The University of Sarajevo Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology hosted Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton
The University of Sarajevo Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology hosted the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović. Institute Director, Prof. Dr. Adaleta Durmić-Pašić, with the Institute Board, presented numerous scientific research, academic and social activities of the Institute, emphasizing the continuous support of the Ministry to its work.
She particularly emphasized the Ministry's commitment and support in the last few years, which enabled the procurement of crucial equipment, which placed the Institute at the very top of scientific research institutions in the region.
“Today, the institute is ready in terms of personnel and infrastructure to respond to the high standards and requirements of modern science by applying the most modern technology” said Director Durmić-Pašić.
Among the activities of the Institute, networking with other institutions within the University, as well as with institutions in the region and beyond, orientation towards modern technologies, and openness towards the wider social community are highlighted.
The Institute has a significant role in the publishing activity and ranking of the University, as well as the importance of the Ministry's involvement in intersectoral connections, and in the cooperation of the Institute and the University of Sarajevo with the economy, the transfer of knowledge and new biotechnologies, but also in providing support for the patenting of innovations.
Minister Mesihović emphasized the importance of the work of the Institute as a leading scientific research institute in Sarajevo Canton, and promised continued support for scientific research activities, which is of great importance for the further development and progress of the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. She emphasized that all activities so far indicate the Ministry's commitment to the advancement of the Institute's scientific research and development in accordance with modern technologies.
“The institute has a key role in the research of genetic diseases, the development of new diagnostic methods, as well as the development of therapies based on genetic principles. It is one of the leading research centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina that deals with the study of genetic material and the application of biotechnological methods in various fields. As such, it plays a key role in the development of genetics and biotechnology in Sarajevo Canton and beyond, and its work contributes to the advancement of science and technology. The institute also educates new generations of young scientists in the fields of engineering and biotechnology through various and innovative educational programs. It is one of the institutions that is an important partner of the Ministry and as such will continue to have support for all scientific innovations and projects that will bring Sarajevo Canton a respectable place in scientific circles, not only in the region, but also beyond” Minister Mesihović concluded.
