Meeting between the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the CS and University of Sarajevo Rector
The newly appointed Minister for Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović, with M.Sc. Azemina Njuhović, Assistant Minister for Science, Mersiha Kolčaković, Assistant Minister for Youth and Nihad Šeta, Assistant Minister for Financial and Accounting Affairs, visited the University of Sarajevo today, where they met with Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Vice-Rectors: Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić, Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, Prof. Dr. Tamara Karača Beljak and Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, and the General Secretary of the University, Kenan Filipović, and the heads of professional services of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo.
During the meeting the improvement of higher education and science in Sarajevo Canton was discussed and the cooperation between the University and the Ministry. Special attention is paid to issues related to the budget planning of the University of Sarajevo, employment and development of human capacities at the University, implementation of projects that are (co)financed by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the KS through science programs, implementation of the Law on Higher Education of the KS, and investing in the infrastructure of the University of Sarajevo.
Rector Škrijelj underlined that the establishment of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton is of great importance for the academic community of the University of Sarajevo. He presented the strategic efforts of the University of Sarajevo to enable continuous personnel renewal and rejuvenation of teaching and scientific research human resources. In parallel with that, as he emphasized, capital efforts are being invested in the development of university infrastructure, especially in the part related to the construction and maintenance of the University Campus in Sarajevo, as well as equipping and investing in scientific research infrastructure.
Minister Mesihović emphasized the importance of cooperation and joint action between the Ministry and the University. She emphasized that the Ministry has clear goals and plans, and that the focus is on improving student standards, increasing investments in scientific research, and emphasizing and promoting excellence in all segments of higher education and science. Minister Mesihović emphasized that the goal, through cooperation, support and implementation of projects, is to create an environment that will encourage the development of young talents, and that the ultimate goal is not only the improvement of the higher education system in Sarajevo Canton, but also the retention of young people in Sarajevo Canton.
The meeting ended with the expressed intention that the joint efforts of the Ministry and the University will achieve significant progress.
