Publications of the UNSA Institute for History Promoted

In the University of Sarajevo’s Ceremonial Hall on Monday 21 April 2014, the promotion of UNSA Institute for History’s publications that had been published in 2013 was organized.

UNSA Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Faruk Mekic delivered the welcome address on behalf of the University of Sarajevo in which he congratulated to the Institute for History and authors. Vice-Rector Mekic also stated that the Institute of History’s publications promotion was the result of the Institute’s work. "The today's promotion demonstrates the importance of historical research for our society and country. This promotion opens up new possibilities for the Institute’s development, which is now a University member and as such, it can continue with more intensive exploration of our past. This promotion shows that the University of Sarajevo yearns to support further scientific research and thus keep the leading position that it has in the university community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This promotion also shows the scientific staff has this Institute and the breeze it drops at the University” said Vice-Rector Mekic.

Prof. Dr. Husnija Kamberovic, director of the University of Sarajevo Institute for History reminded in his speech that the Institute for History existed for more than half a century and that it had received the City of Sarajevo 6th of April Award for its five decades of. “Until last year, the Institute worked as a public research institution, and since the last year we have been acting as an organizational unit of the University of Sarajevo. As we have been keeping the dignity of historical studies for more than half a century, we believe that in the future, now acting as a University member, we will have the opportunity and ability to affirm the value of science, with a desire to be even better. However without any intention to present ourselves differently than we really are” said Director Kamberovic. Pointing out that the Institute is today recognized scientific institutions in the field of historiography, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also in Europe, Director Kamberovic reminded the attendees about the series of international projects in which the Institute was involved in which it takes part.  Director Kamberovic announced new activities both in publishing and in other fields of scientific activity.

The Institute for History promoted today seven publications from year 2013: Ibrahim Karabegovic’s Memorial - Book Of Proceedings in memory of Prof. Dr. Ibrahim  Karabegovic who was a long term Institute’s director, Bosnia and Herzegovina and British Politics from 1857 To 1878– From Defender and Protector to the Judge and Jury by Prof. Dr. Edin Radusic, The Role of Sarajevo Monuments in Building the Collective Memory of 1941-1945 and 1992-1995 Periods - A Comparative Analysis by M.Sc. Amra Custo about monuments commemorating the WW2 and 1990s war. The following journals: Prilozi – annual edition and three editions of Historijska traganja were promoted. One issue of Historijska traganja was dedicated to the marking of ZAVNOBIH’s 70th Anniversary thus demonstrating the responsibility that the Institute has towards the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the state

The promoters were Prof. Dr. Tomislav Isek, Dr. Admir Mulaosmanovic, Dr. Vera Katz, Dr. Hana Younis, Prof. Dr. Adnan Jahic and Prof. Dr. Mirko Pejanovic.
