Mobility

Since 1965, our university signed its first international agreement, and we have opened doors to the outgoing and incoming mobility of students and staff members, contributing to the networking, capacity building and internationalisation-at-home processes. Based on the rich experience, visits to partner institutions, and fruitful participation in many international projects, the International Relations Office has developed an infrastructure for global mobility, following the good examples of many European higher education institutions. The most common way of incoming mobility is through mobility programs such as Erasmus+ or CEEPUS. However, other options (e.g. free-movers) are available too. 

Outgoing mobility

International outgoing mobility represents sending UNSA students and teaching/scientific/artistic or non-teaching staff to an international institution for educational and professional development. In this way, cooperation is developed between countries that promote mobility in the academic field and cultural exchange between students and staff of all nations. Most often, through a specially organized mobility program (Erasmus+, CEEPUS) or competitions published by various international, national, or private institutions, students are offered opportunities to gain valuable educational experience outside the place of study. In contrast, university staff from the academic community are offered the possibility of professional development and acquisition of international experience at partner institutions.

The International Relations Office (IRO) publishes calls* for international mobility through mobility programs (Erasmus+) on official websites and shares through various social networks. Students and university staff can apply online by submitting the required documents from the call. IRO collects all received applications and submits them to the selected foreign institution as nominations. By using appropriate criteria: technical (all requested documents are sent), previous mobility (preference is given to the ones without previous experience), academic (average GPA), and special conditions (students with limited possibilities), candidates are ranked and selected based on the expressed needs and conditions of the partner host institution. Outgoing students are followed through their application process, supporting them in issuing needed documents to regulate their status and for entry/residence permits to the foreign country (IRO has issued an Outgoing Student and Staff Guide, which provides all necessary information from the moment of confirming the mobility, during mobility and post mobility). Upon their return, and according to the Erasmus+ program guidelines, students are expected to provide proof of recognition of their results at the host institution (in detail regulated by the UNSA's Rulebook of Mobility).

* Some Erasmus+ KA171 agreements are signed directly with the member unit/department, and the departmental coordinators administer the calls.

Incoming mobility

Incoming mobility makes our university a host institution for different educational, academic, scientific, and research activities. Whether you are a student, researcher, teaching, or non-teaching staff, the University of Sarajevo (and the city of Sarajevo) is your best host destination. If you want to come to UNSA, check with your home university (International Relations Office or Erasmus+ office) about the availability of international mobility grants. What is needed for the exchange: 

  • a valid exchange agreement* between your home institution and the University of Sarajevo,
  • your home university has nominated you,
  • sending required application documents,
  • finding suitable study program(s),
  • confirmed mobility by the host (UNSA).

* It's important to note that a valid agreement with our institution is a prerequisite for applying to the University of Sarajevo. If such an agreement is not in place, you can still explore the option of applying as a freemover. However, please remember that you must be nominated by your home institution before proceeding with this option.

Once nominated, students will receive the needed information to start their application (filling in the application form with the modules from the published list with modules offered in English or English-friendly)), followed by the evaluation (by the departmental coordinators). Aside from selecting the modules, students must provide proof of knowing English at the level of B2 (according to the CERF) or local language to be able to follow classes. Once approved, students will receive a Welcome email that contains all necessary information on further steps (finalizing the learning agreement, preparing documents for their residence permit, and other academic, administrative, and practical information). From their arrival, students are included in the educational community (Welcome Day, orientation week, ESN, Buddy program, Bosnian language school, field trips, sports, etc).
